Eric Cheong, M.Sc., Patent


Eric has practiced with Swanson & Bratschun since January 2011, beginning as a law clerk while attending law school. Eric practices Intellectual Property law with a focus on drafting and prosecuting patent applications in the mechanical, electrical, electronics, medical device, medical diagnostic, telecommunications, semiconductor, microtechnology, nanotechnology, optics, and software areas, among other technical fields.  He also has experience in other areas of Intellectual Property law, including experience with design patent matters, trademark matters, and assignment of intellectual property rights. In his patent practice, he also provides various aspects of client counseling including drafting non-infringement and invalidity opinions, handling overall due diligence reviews, and performing freedom-to-operate searches.

Prior to attending law school, Eric worked as an Electrical Engineering Patent Analyst at a patent law firm based in Osaka, Japan, focusing on worldwide patent prosecution, with emphasis on prosecuting patent applications before the patent offices in the U.S., Europe, China, Korea, and Japan.
